Uldagukdruk

General Information

Volcanic fuglans. Despite their name (hot mountain), their habitat is actually quite varied, overlapping with forest, cave, or sea fuglans, depending on where they live. These small fuglans often make their homes in lava tube caves and in cavities in the sides of cliffs. They are excellent at scaling sheer cliffs and climbing trees, using wind and geothermal vents to glide on.

Average lifespan: 60 years

Average height: 3 feet (90 cm)

Average weight: 30 lbs (13 kg)

Anatomy

Smaller than other fuglan tribes, the patagia between their limbs allows them ability to glide and traverse great heights with relative ease. A fanned tail gives them more mobility to steer while gliding and a tail light helps them see in dark caverns. Their skin comes in colors of speckled gray, black, brown, red, and blue.

Diet

Their diet may include insects, crustaceans, small animals, fish, eggs, leafy greens, tubers, fruit, mushrooms, and moss.

Culture

Uldagudruk prefer simple, minimalist lives, rarely living beyond their means. While they avoid active eruptions, they take advantage of the rich minerals of fresh volcanic soil. Home relocation is frequent, partially due to unstable volcanic activity, thus preventing permanent settling.

Technology

Uldagudruk technology is underdeveloped and comparable to that of Paleolithic humans. Obsidian, wood, and bone tools are used for weaving, cooking, and medicine. Clothing is rarely worn, as it weighs them down, but cordage is frequently used for homes, bridges, and landing nets.

Religion

Despite their simple lifestyle, many Uldagudruk are still quite spiritual. Ancestral spirits may serve as guardians against choleric volcanos. Volcanoes themselves symbolize death and rebirth, which is ingrained in Udlagudruk spirituality.
