Nidez

General Information

Also known as cave fuglans. Villages are built entirely underground and often secluded from most other tribes, with the exception of Udlagudrak clans if they share volcanic cave tunnel systems.

Average lifespan: 100 years

Average height: 4.6 feet (140 cm)

Average weight: 90 lbs (40 kg)

Anatomy

Because this tribe has evolved to live underground, their eyes are much more sensitive to sunlight. They are often leucitic or albino, making it difficult to travel outside during the day without protective clothing or they risk blindness, burning, and sun sickness. Nidez have large bioluminescent bulbs on their tails, as well as smaller bulbs on whisker-like appendages on their chin or muzzle. Their large crests on their heads are decorative and serve no purpose other than sex appeal. Nidez's scales come in faded colors of orange, yellow, and red, and some are even entirely white.

Diet

Their diet consists of fungus, insects, fish, crustaceans, tubers, moss, and algae. Fruit and leafy vegetables are less commonly available, but can be grown up on the surface to be harvested at night.

Culture

Nidez are especially reclusive and rarely trust other tribes on the surface, but are tight-knit with their own families. When a family member has passed on, the family will keep their bones to be used in jewelry or carved into decorations and tools.

Technology

Stone, wood, leather, jade, and bone are commonly used to make tools and underground structures. Nidez clans are highly knowledgeable about local geography and may extract rare minerals, rocks, and soft metals from the ground, but are also very cautious about cave structural integrity and local ecosystems affected by mining pollution. Mining is therefore done mainly done on a surface level and carefully planned and maintained through traditional protection.

Religion

While Nidez clans revere their ancestors and family members, ancestral spiritual practices are not common. Instead, Nidez clans focus their spirituality on the earth itself, living inside the rock and familiarizing themselves with sacred geology. Gemstones are considered magical, storing energy blessed (or cursed) by spirits.
