Once more, I embrace the unknown. The cold sea engulfs my body as I sink, the surface expanding and slowly fading from view. There is little more than a vast, empty void of darkness below me, but each time I descend its depths, I gain more awareness of the deep, alien sea.
A calling from deep below draws me in each time, a forbidden beckoning that attempts to steal the breath from my blood. I resist the full power of its pull, only diving a little further each time. I know my limits, as stretched as they may be.
Darkness now surrounds me, my lights doing little to help, so I switch them off. It takes some time to adjust, but I scarcely make out the vague shapes of denizens of the deep oscillating in the distance. Faint flickers of lights catch my eye, but none I recognize. I am a stranger down here.
Another visit to the depths of the sea. Still nothing but a black void beneath me. The beckoning of the depths are far more powerful here, but my spleen and lungs protest. Any further could mean I will never return to the surface on my own. Once more, I ignore the temptation to begin my ascent. I will not see the bottom of the void today.
